Getting the most out of this text
Go to class
You paid for class. It's your chance to learn from an expert -- your prof or TA. So, be there. If you miss a class -- read the textbook, try the activities, ask a classmate for notes, and visit office hours for questions.
Do the activities
Activities are your time to do the math. Partner with a classmate and get started. Go at a pace where you both understand. Don't be afraid to test out ideas. And ask for help when you need it.
Read the textbook
Read the textbook. Start with the Definitions to check that you know what the words and notation mean. Next, try the Examples -- use the Solutions to help. Last, don't forget the important stuff: Theorems summarize big ideas.
Do your homework.
The secret to learning? Practice, practice, practice. The exercises are your chance to practice, deepen your understanding, and explore new ideas. Avoid the temptation to use AI. Instead use the Hints, work with a classmate, or go to office hours.
